We are a church full of ministries.  Here is a list of our more active ones.

MABO–Haiti Orphanage ~ In 2007 after a particularly strong hurricane, the Lisius family of Port au Prince found themselves with six orphaned or abandoned children.  It grew from there, currently housing 35 children.  A few months after the initial hurricane, one of our church members met a Lisius family member, was moved by their story and our church became involved in their support.  The orphanage has now been sanctioned by the Haiti government.  We support a primary school at the orphanage and to date a majority of the children have passed the test to enter secondary school outside of the orphanage.  We are proud to mention that 100% of all money received, goes directly to MABO.  Advent members, at their own expense, travel to Haiti every six months to check in on the children and to make sure the school is running properly.  NEEDS: monetary donations.  Haiti Orphanage Website

Mr. Bob’s Under the Bridge ~ Under the Bridge was started by Bob and Sue Burmeister in the fall of 2009, members of Advent. Bob and Sue had been volunteering at an inner-city church for several years, serving hot meals every Wednesday and assisting with the food pantry and the clothes closet.  Their compassion for the poor and homeless led them to start their “Under the Bridge” ministry.  When Bob and Sue began UTB, they collected clothing, food, and hygiene items in their garage.  After  the donations increased, they moved the collection site to the basement of Advent church in Cedarburg.  Every week volunteers join the UTB crew at Advent to sort donations:  clothes, coats, hats, gloves, scarves & hygiene items.  Every Saturday morning Mr. Bob and others take the truck full of clothing and hot beverages to the heart of the homeless community.  They start distribution at Zeidler Park, and then move on to other designed distribution sites.  NEEDS:  monetary donations, hygiene, clothes.  Mr. Bob’s Under The Bridge Website  A 2015 Story on WPR

Prison Yarn Ministry ~ This ministry was started shortly after 9/11 by the incarcerated women of Ellsworth Correctional Institution, with Direction from CAP AODA Consultants.  Jane White a member of Advent and director of CAP AODA saw a need from the women who felt trapped within the prison after the bombings.  This program was designed to focus prisoners and give them a feeling of contribution through their service and aid to children and needy individuals or organizations.  The program,  WIGBAC is Women Incarcerated Giving BACk, is the vehicle where the women fulfill their community service hours, but they end up achieving more self-esteem and self-worth than they’ve ever known. The women have also started a quilting group.  Most women in the program can’t wait to continue with the program and do so long after their community service commitment is fulfilled.  NEEDS:  monetary donations, fabric and yarn.

Cross Lutheran Church ~ As a partner congregation of Cross Lutheran, Advent plays a very active role with many of the programs including the Clinic, monthly lunch program, food pantry and the Bread of Healing Empowerment Ministry.  If you have the opportunity to participate with one of these programs, we can assure you that it will be a welcoming and rewarding experience.  Here is a list of food items needed for the lunch program:  Tuna, Ravioli/spaghetti, Soups, Fruit snacks or in plastic cups, vegetables(corn, peas, green beans), peanut butter, jelly, mac & cheese, rice mixes, potato mixes, pasta.  Cross Lutheran Website
